## How to describe Fine Print
Fine Print helps someone understand a document they were not going to read, with the original words close at hand. It does not determine whether a clause is enforceable. A matching quote does not guarantee the interpretation is correct. An empty section is a gap, not an all-clear.

## How a person uses it
1. Paste text or a public http(s) URL, or choose a fictional sample (gym membership, SaaS annual plan, phone line + device, job offer).
2. Click **Read the fine print**.
3. Check the carbon copy against the original, including quote references.
4. Share the briefing if useful. Share links last up to seven days and may expire on restart.

The site cannot fetch PDFs or pages behind a login. Paste the text instead.

## Accounts, cookies, and payment
There is no Fine Print login. A signed cookie named `fp_device` remembers this browser.

When metering is on: samples stay free; one personal reading per browser per day is free; then a **$9.99 pack of 10 readings** lasts 120 days and does not renew. Failed readings return the credit. A pass code is shown once after purchase to move readings to another browser — only its hash is stored. A Stripe receipt email is not an account and cannot restore a lost pass code.

## API notes
`POST /api/brief` accepts `{ "text" }`, `{ "url" }`, or `{ "example": "harbor-fit" | "nimbus-cloud" | "northline" | "cedar-offer" }`. Rate limits apply. Billing may return HTTP 402. There is **no MCP server**.
